The shocking discovery of a dog’s carcass, burnt and without its paws, has sparked fears that of modern-day witchcraft in the borough of Benavente (Santarém district).
GNR police only caught up with this story after it had been trailed over social media, with lurid photographs.
Say reports, the area is already marked by the discovery of other body parts of animals “like cats and rabbits all targets of similar abuse”.
Tabloid Correio da Manhã says the dead dog appeared to have a length of chain around its neck, thus it may have been a guard dog stolen from a nearby property.
