The Ireland Portugal Business Network welcomed more than 70 people
Tony Boyle, Chair of the IPBN
The Ireland Portugal Business Network (IPBN) hosted its first Algarve event on Thursday, October 4 at the Magnolia Hotel in Quinta do Lago, having attracted a large crowd of local businesses, officials and entrepreneurs.
Hosting the event were Dearbháile Banahan, Chair of the Algarve Committee of the IPBN and her fellow committee members, along with Tony Boyle, Chair of the IPBN.
The key address was given by Professor Francisco Serra who outlined the role the CCDR plays in developing the Algarve. His colleague Dr Paulo Bota presented the European Enterprise Network with a particular focus on the networks that exist in Portugal and Ireland, and how they could be used to further collaboration between Irish and Portuguese companies.
Finally, committee member Declan Conway spoke about the key role “sustainability” will play in the future of economic activity and suggested three areas the Algarve could focus on – “innovation, community and sustainability”.
According to organisers, the event was “well attended by more than 70 participants” and there was “lots of information shared and new contacts made – a great start to the network’s activities in the Algarve”.
“Judging by the feedback we had from the delegates present, we believe this event was an excellent occasion to meet key personnel in the region and to exchange views on the expansion plans and the opportunities it opens for businesses in Portugal and Ireland. This event was only the first of many future activities,” the IPBN says.
