Spanish hotel chain chooses Portugal to start expansion

Spanish hotel chain Casual Hotels has picked Portugal to begin its international expansion, having announced plans to open two hotels in Lisbon and Porto next year.

According to Spanish tourism news website Hosteltur, the chain will open a 45-room hotel in downtown Lisbon and a 70-room hotel on Porto’s popular Santa Catarina street in 2019.

But there are plans for even more hotels as the group says there are “interesting investment possibilities” in both cities and that it is “much easier” to find spaces for its projects in Portugal than in other countries.

By 2023, the chain hopes to have 30 hotels in Europe and is looking for properties to rent in cities like Rome, Milan, Florence, Amsterdam, Paris and London.

Casual Hotels currently manages 11 hotels in Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Bilbao, San Sebastián and Cádis.
