Climate change and regeneration debate in Tavira

Tavira municipal library is hosting a debate entitled “Climate – now what?” on Saturday, June 29, from 3pm to 6pm.

The debate about climate change has shifted. It is no longer “is it happening?” … now the question is “how do we create systems to regenerate and repair our damaged planet?”

REconomia Tavira, part of the Transition Movement, is inviting everyone to attend the debate, watch a short film and help “create a new story for our planet”.

The film is part of a series of videos about Climate Change and Consciousness and features Bill McKibben, who created the highly effective campaigning organisation 350.org, an international movement of ordinary people working to end the age of fossil fuels and build a world of community-led renewable energy for all.

In the video, he discusses what challenges lie ahead and what we need to do now (English with Portuguese subtitles).

Groups who have information to share at the event include Coopérnico (solar energy company), Fridays for the Future (school strikes for the climate), Plataforma Algarve Livre de Petróleo (PALP) and Lais de Guia (local maritime heritage organisation).

As David Attenborough, BBC, says: “Young people may lack experience, but they also have clear sight. They can perhaps see more clearly than the rest of us who have been around for some time. My generation is no great example for understanding – we have done terrible things. If we are not making progress with young people, we are done.”

REconomia Tavira is part of the global Transition Movement. Its focus is the enhancement of resilience within the local community through projects, trading opportunities and education.
