Police arrest man suspected of raping Polish tourist in Albufeira

PJ police have arrested a 44-year-old man suspected of raping an 18-year-old Polish woman in Albufeira last week.

The man was tracked down on Saturday, June 29 in the Lisbon region and has been remanded in custody. He is described by the police force as “divorced and unemployed” and has a “record of violent crimes”.

According to Correio da Manhã tabloid, the young woman told authorities that she was taken to a house on Rua das Palhinhas near the Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco square in Albufeira on June 26 and forced to perform sexual acts with the man, “particularly oral sex”.

The man then allegedly left the house, leaving her alone.

Says CM, the woman sustained minor injuries and was treated by Albufeira’s firefighters before being taken to Faro Hospital.

GNR were the first police force to arrive, but the case was later taken over by PJ police which is the force responsible for investigating reports of rape.
