Olhão prepares “biggest Pirate Festival ever”

Olhão’s Pirate Festival begins today (August 1) and is promising to be the “biggest ever,” according to the local council.

This year, the event is taking place not only along the town’s riverside but in Fuseta as well.

As the name suggests, the event takes visitors back in time to the era of pirates.

No matter where you look, chances are you’ll find some kind of historical reenactment, performative art, storytelling and much more.

There will also be a pirate market at Jardim Patrão Joaquim Lopes with 50 stalls.

Organisers have also extended the event’s opening hours, keeping the festival going all day long on Saturday and Sunday.

Thus the festival will begin at 5pm today and Friday and at 10am over the weekend, ending on all four days at 1am. In Fuzeta, the entertainment will take place between 5pm and 6pm. Admission is free.
