Walks, boat trips, birdwatching, swimming, sailing, stand-up paddling and mountain biking are just a few of the free activities that people will be able to enjoy during the Algarve Nature Fest, which is taking place in Olhão between September 21 and 22.
The Algarve Nature Fest is the spiritual successor to the Algarve Nature Week event and aims to promote “the natural beauty of the Algarve” while also raising awareness about the “importance of protecting and conserving the biological and scenic diversity of the Algarve.”
Algarve tourism boss João Fernandes says the event is “part of a group of projects” that the region tourism board has organised and supported in recent years in a bid to diversify what the region has to offer tourists while also attracting a larger variety of holidaymakers and also bringing more people to the Algarve outside of the peak summer season.
Apart from the tourism board, the Algarve Nature Fest is also backed by Olhão council, national train operator CP, PSP police and the Algarve’s school board DGEE.
The full programme can be found online. While they are all free, some of the activities need to be booked in advance. The event’s promotional video stars the Algarve’s bodyboard world champion Joana Schenker alongside radio stars Nuno Markl and Vasco Palmeirim.
