Lagoa council has issued a warning advising people not to swim at Sítio das Fontes, a popular beauty spot in Estômbar.
The council warns that it hasn’t rained enough this year to ensure that the water at the nature park’s ponds is fit for swimming.
Although the stop gates are opened frequently to help “renew” the water, this does not “guarantee that the water quality is good enough for people to enjoy a safe swim.
“If the lack of rain continues in the coming months, we don’t expect the situation to change,” the council warns.
Sítio das Fontes is a municipal park located along the banks of the Arade River. It is a popular spot for picnics, barbecues and hikes and is described as a “perfect alternative” to the Algarve’s usually crowded beaches.
