Olhão council has hailed this year’s ‘Festival do Marisco’ (Seafood Festival) as the “best in the last 15 years” thanks to a record number of guests and seafood sold.
The event took place between August 9 and 14 and, “once again, proved why it has become the most important gastronomic event in the south of the country”, the local council said in a statement to the press.
“After three decades, we decided it was time to breathe new life into the event,” mayor António Pina said at the end of the festival, adding that the decision paid off.
“We had a ‘younger festival’ this year, with a new look but which stayed true to its two fundamental pillars: the best gastronomy and a luxury musical line-up,” Pina added.
The 34th Olhão Seafood Festival featured many novelties, organisers said, “namely the aerial entertainment which kicked off the festivities every night and captivated the audience, as well as the DJ sets by Christian F and Wilson Honrado on the first and last days of the festival following the main concert”.
The musical line-up included Matias Damásio, HMB, Killer Queen, Ludmilla and Resistência as well as Paula Fernandes, who welcomed world-famous footballer Neymar on stage during her performance. Dolores Aveiro, mother of Cristiano Ronaldo, was also among the notorious guests.
“Promoting Ria Formosa, the town and the municipality of the Olhão and bolstering its economy and tourism are the goals of this council-led initiative, organised by municipal entertainment company Fesnima,” the local council says.
