There will be plenty to do in Carvoeiro this weekend (August 24-25) as the picturesque fishing town gears up for two days of summer fun including live music from popular DJs and singers, religious celebrations and fireworks.
The festivities begin on Saturday with the sixth ‘Carvoeiro Beach Party’. Taking place between 8pm and 3am, the event promises to electrify the local beachside square with performances by several renowned DJs.
The opening act will be DJ Soulbeat accompanied by Lisbon violinist Abarboza, followed by a performance at 10pm by Cromos da Noite, a musical duo consisting of a DJ and an MC who together present their own spin on funk, afro and house.
DJ Christian F will take the stage at midnight and will keep the audience dancing until 1.30am, when the prestigious duo known as KEVU will make their appearance.
The pair of DJs have been enjoying great success in Portugal and abroad, having recently performed at the notorious Tomorrowland electronic dance music festival in Belgium.
“The Carvoeiro Beach Party is an event that nobody can miss,” organisers say.
The event is included in the annual religious festivities in honour of Our Lady of Incarnation (Nossa Senhora da Encarnação), the bulk of which will take place the following day.
Hundreds if not thousands of people take part in the festivities every year, which will begin at 9am on Sunday to the sound of fireworks to get everyone out of bed.
The morning mass is scheduled for 10.30am followed by another mass at 6pm and a procession through the town’s streets at 7pm.
Musical entertainment will begin at 8.30pm with Eurico Martins & Cristina getting the crowd ready for a performance by famous Portuguese singer Ágata.
The festivities will come to an end with another fireworks show at 11.55pm.
