Four young tourists – described as three New Zealanders and a youth from Cape Verde – have WhatsApp to thank for their rescue from Gerês national park over the weekend.
The group realised it was lost late on Saturday night, and contacted police, using their GPS coordinates to show where they were.
Say reports, a specialist ‘GIPs’ team of GNR agents was mobilised, and reached them six hours later, at 4am on Sunday.
None of the youngsters had suffered any injuries, but they had managed to wander some way from the official ‘trail’.
