The Algarve Organ Festival is returning to Faro, Portimão, Boliqueime and Tavira for its 12th edition in November.
With 12 concerts taking place at local churches between this Friday (November 1) and November 30, the event promises to delight classical music lovers.
The first concert will take place at Portimão’s Igreja Matriz on Friday (November 1), with organist Gyula Szilágyi and Coral Adágio interpreting ‘Magnificat’ by João Rodrigues Esteves. The same church will also host a performance by organist André Ferreira and soprano singer Teresa Duarte a week later (November 8).
Faro will host a concert on every Saturday in November, with three of the performances taking place at Igreja da Sé and two at Igreja do Carmo.
Gyula Szilágyi will be the first to take the stage at the Sé church on Saturday (November 2) with André Ferreira and Coral Ossónoba performing a week later (November 9). The next two concerts will be held at Igreja do Carmo and will feature Rui Paiva and the Quarteto Arabesco string quartet on November 16 and António Duarte, Ana Paula Russo and Ariana Russo on November 23.
Javier Artigas and Ministriles de Marsias will be the stars of the final concert in Faro, to be held on November 30 at the Sé church.
In Boliqueime, the Igreja Paroquial will host two performances by Rui Paiva and Quarteto Arabesco on Friday, November 15 and by António Duarte, Ana Paula Russo and Ariana Russo on November 22.
Two churches in Tavira will also be the setting for three organ concerts.
The first will see Inês Machado and Sara Pedro performing on Friday, November 15 at Igreja da Misericórdia while the two others will be held at Igreja de Santiago with performers Célia Tavares (November 22) and Javier Artigas and Ministriles de Marsias (November 29).
All the concerts are free and begin at 9.30pm. There will also be three additional events taking place at Igreja da Sé in Faro including a concert for children on November 14 at 10pm, a concert by the students of Faro’s Organ School on November 17 at 4pm and a mass accompanied by live organ music on November 24 at 4pm.
