Pneumonia kills more Portuguese than traffic accidents. This is the message on World Pneumonia Day today, raising awareness of the illness that takes a life here every 93 minutes.
Says Jaime Pina, president of the Portuguese Lung Foundation, more people die of pneumonia in Portugal than in any other European country.
Advocating free distribution of an otherwise costly vaccine, Pina says all over-65s with chronic lung disease should be receiving it.
