Grand House Algarve Hotel in Vila Real de Santo António is hosting a number of fine dining events in the coming months, with the first two on February 7 and 8 (Friday and Saturday) at its Grand Salon restaurant.
The menu will be created by head chef Jan Stechemesser with the help of guest chef Tiago Bonito from Michelin-starred restaurant Largo do Paço in the northern Portuguese town of Amarante.
Together they will be preparing a dinner which will take people on a “sensorial trip from the north to the south of Portugal” inspired by the culinary customs of different locations.
Douro wine producer Colinas do Douro will be in charge of the wine pairing.
“I am very happy to launch this gastronomic cycle and open the doors of Grand Salon to the influences of other parts of the country and even other countries,” said Stechemesser.
Sharing his excitement is Tiago Bonito who said it is “always a fantastic challenge to discover new regions, new products, different gastronomic traditions and work with chefs whom I have never worked before”.
As he stressed, “you always learn something new and everyone wins”.
Diners should book in advance as there are only 30 seats available per event. Price is €165 per person, including drinks.
The Grand House Algarve Hotel opened on February 7 last year in the same building as the historic hotel once known as Hotel Guadiana.
In November, it became the latest Portuguese member of the Relais & Châteaux, a collection of some of the best international gourmet restaurants, boutique hotels, resorts and villas.
The hotel is located in the heart of Vila Real de Santo António and had been abandoned for years before it was revamped by the local council, which handed over its management to the Grand House Algarve Group.
