Turf it out: Lagoa ‘switches’ to artificial grass to save water

Lagoa Council is trying to “save water and reduce maintenance costs” around the borough by replacing real grass with artificial grass.

The idea is to “place artificial grass in areas where it is only decorative and leave traditional lawns where it is used by the population,” says the council. The project has been described as a “priority”.

Says the council, around 3,724sqm of real grass is due to be replaced.

The Lagoa Sol urbanisation accounts for a large area (around 2,600sqm) of the total, it adds.

The new artificial grass will be installed gradually, says the council.
