The 2021 edition of the Óbidos International Chocolate Festival will take place online, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the council of Óbidos announced last week.
The International Chocolate Festival of Óbidos has been taking place since 2002 and is organised by the council of Óbidos, in central Portugal, 100 km north of Lisbon, in partnership with the municipal company Óbidos Criativa.
This year’s edition will offer “informative and formative content, of a technical, pedagogical and didactic nature” to reveal chocolates being made in Portugal and around the world.
The online platform will also enable customers to order products from the International Chocolate Festival of Óbidos. Some of these chocolates are “so exclusive that, apart from the event, you can hardly buy them on any circuit commercial,” the council of Óbidos said, adding that some products would be available as of Valentine’s Day, on February 14.
The festival’s website is being redesigned and will be re-launched with archive material, “so that each of the previous editions can be remembered.” There will also be content alluding to the heritage and identity of the medieval village.
The event usually takes place between April and May, around the Castle of Óbidos. Its main attractions include the exhibition of large chocolate sculptures made by chocolatiers. There are also contests, demonstrations, exhibitions and chocolates on sale. Every year, the festival attracts thousands of visitors to the village.
