Farense: Making up lost ground

Liga NOS: Farense 0-1 Sporting; Paços de Ferreira 0-2 Farense

Farense followed up a tough 0-1 home loss against Liga NOS leaders, Sporting CP, on Friday with an impressive 2-0 away win against Paços de Ferreira on Tuesday.

Their clash with Sporting was decided by a lone Pedro Gonçalves goal in the first half, despite a barrage of scoring opportunities in the last 45 minutes which could have given Sporting CP a more comfortable lead or given Farense a fighting chance to at least escape with a point.

However, impressive displays by goalkeepers Beto and Ádan ensured that the scoreboard remained unchanged.

Needing points desperately, Jorge Costa’s men were able to pull off a massive win on Tuesday night with Ryan Gauld and Fabrício Isidoro each scoring in the last 15 minutes to give Farense a badly-needed win.

As the Resident went to press, Farense were sitting in 16th place with 25 points but with one more match than their closest rivals. A win against Algarve neighbours Portimonense on Tuesday (April 27) could help the Lions of Faro pull away from the relegation zone.
