This weekend the Algarveans are performing ‘Duets’, a comedy by Peter Quilter in their new Little Theatre, in Sesmarias on Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23 at 7.30pm.
The new location is in Cabeço das Pias at the Polidesportivo sports hall of the União da Juventude das Sesmarias, which has a stage – very like an English village hall – where the group can rehearse and perform smaller productions in a more intimate space to smaller audiences.
There will be a bar for pre-show and interval drinks so make sure you arrive early. Seating is on a first come first served basis. Bring your masks! For last-minute returns or enquiries, email algarveansboxoffice@gmail.com
“We are delighted to have found a new home in which to perform ‘Duets’, where we can test the waters after COVID,” says director Jim Landis. “Tickets for the show sold out in only a few days, a response that has assured us that our audience still support amateur drama, and that there is a huge desire for live theatre.”
‘Duets’ is a light-hearted four-part comedy examining the chaotic world of love and relationships. Jonathan and Wendy are on a blind date and hoping to get it right this time; Barrie is not really interested in women, but Janet sees that as no reason to stop trying; Shelley and Bobby have decided to holiday in Spain to finalise their divorce; Angela is marrying for the third time to her brother Toby’s dismay and amidst a barrage of bad omens.
Next Spring 2022, the company will again be performing at the much larger Carlos do Carmo theatre in Lagoa, a venue familiar to many of their followers.
The Algarveans are always keen to welcome new members to get involved, on stage or backstage.
