The council highlights the need to protect local honey production sector
Silves Council is implementing a project that aims to avoid the spread of the Asian hornet – a species linked to the decimation of honeybee populations – to the municipality.
Although no Asian hornets have been sighted in the borough so far, the council is taking a preventive approach due to the importance of the local honey production sector. Thus, the council is providing training to local civil protection workers to detect and eliminate nests.
