The number of schoolchildren/ pupils without teachers at the start of this academic year has been revised upwards, from 60,000 to 75,000 (numbers gleaned from the Ministry of Education’s own website). With teachers already ‘threatening strike action’ during this 1st period (term leading up to Christmas), opposition parties are already calling out the government for a return to classes “without conditions for adequate functioning” of the country’s State schools. It is ‘groundhog day’… again.
