We are officially in the final quarter of the year, and what a year it has been! 2022 was definitely the year for travel.
After two years of uncertainty, seeing so many people embrace the freedom of a holiday in the Algarve was great to see.
Due to this, we expect 2023 to be an even busier time for the Algarve. In fact, we are already seeing a massive demand for forward bookings for next summer. Property owners need to take note of this now so that they can maximise their rental income.
As we approach winter, SandyBlue always uses this time to reflect. Making note of key trends, and seeing how we can adapt to them, is a key part of our villa rental strategy. So, what will 2023 look like for the Algarve and tourism?
The key holiday trends
The first trend we expect to see is a rise in multi-generational travel. Because families had been kept apart, 2022 saw many larger family groups travelling together. It means family-friendly villas are high on the agenda. From accessibility to making properties child-friendly, villa owners must capitalise on larger group holidays.
The great outdoors is also sure to be at the top of travel itineraries for many people. When marketing your property, it will be imperative to use an outdoors focus. Whether it’s the villas outdoor space or activities in the surrounding area, guests want to be in nature now more than ever. Property owners must think about how they can use the space they have to really attract guests.
After the rise of the ‘workation’, a new buzzword has emerged which we also expect to be on everyone’s minds. ‘Bleisure’ travel, where one mixes business with travelling, is becoming popular due to a rise in remote workers.
Research shows that a majority of ‘bleisure’ travellers stay at the same place for both the business and leisure portions of their stay. This means there is a great market for repeat guests, as these people will want somewhere familiar for their work, while enjoying what the area has to offer in their spare time. This trend will be massively popular for domestic tourists and, of course, international guests too.
A year to remember
While we are preparing to welcome guests for winter getaways, we are still busy planning ahead to welcome guests in 2023. This year has been a fantastic year for Algarve tourism, so we are excited to see this continue next year.
