Prime Minister António Costa has announced today a “very important project” between Portugal and Spain for joint energy storage on the Iberian Peninsula, which will allow emergency situations – like the current energy crisis and the drought to be overcome – and which could also encompass storage of lithium. The idea comes on the back of the European Commision plan to create strategic reserves “to prevent disruptions of the supply of raw materials essential to industry”, explains Lusa, “such as rare earths and lithium, supply of which is controlled by China”.
