Over 100 pine trees planted in Vila Real de Santo António

Trees were planted by local students

Vila Real de Santo António council celebrated National Native Forest Day on Wednesday (November 23) by planting over 100 pine trees in the Mata Nacional das Dunas Litorais, a local forest area.

The initiative was carried out by students and teachers from the António Aleixo and Professor Caldeira Alexandre schools, with each student having planted one tree.

“The measure continues the Mata das Dunas Litorais reforestation project, started in 2020/2021 by the Municipal Forest Technical Office, and aims to promote the importance of protecting and planting species that are a part of natural heritage,” the council says.

Also in attendance were VRSA deputy mayor Ricardo Cipriano, councillor Conceição Pires, VRSA parish council president Valentim Santos and representatives from the National Forest and Nature Conservation Institute (ICNF), which provided the trees.
