Portuguese public prosecutors have so far this year begun no less than 3,598 criminal inquiries focussing on corruption and related crime – “a record that already exceeds the number of inquiries opened in the whole of last year”, explains the Attorney General’s Office on this International Day against Corruption. Crimes at issue involve not only bribery, but “also abuse of power, harmful administration, money laundering, economic participation in business, embezzlement, prevarication, undue receipt of advantage and graft”, said the statement released today.
