Municipalities start totting up the millions of euros in flood damages

Oeiras has been one of the first municipalities in Greater Lisbon to come up with a ballpark figures on flood damages caused since last Wednesday. Mayor Isaltino Morais is talking about “material losses of at least €5 million”. His is one of various worst affected areas being visited by Minister of the Presidency Mariana Vieira da Silva who has been repeating the government’s pledge that all damages will be compensated. In Loures yesterday, she acknowledged that the municipality itself has set aside €1 million to help citizens in the immediate term before government support comes through.
