Welcome in 2023 by taking a dip in the ocean and raising funds for the needy
After the Christmas Day swim in Armação de Pêra which saw dozens of Santas running towards the sea for their annual dip in the ocean, brave swimmers can now prepare for another charity swim on New Year’s Day.
The location is the same – Armação de Pêra beach – and organisers hope the weather will also be warm and the sea calm.
Organisers of the Traditional Charity Santa Swim on December 25, the Clube dos Veículos Clássicos do Barlavento, thanked all who participated and also the television crews from TVI, SIC, and CMTV who came to record the event.
Santas started arriving from 10.15am, and at 11am a large number ran towards the sea.
Everyone enjoyed a welcome glass of hot chocolate and brandy in the Holiday Inn Algarve Bar afterwards.
Organisers said: “A big thank you to all who participated, the media for helping with the publicity, the Charity Man who entertained us with Christmas Songs throughout the event, and for all the donations” – just over €1,000 was raised for needy families in Armação de Pêra.

In order to raise more funds, there will be another Charity Swim on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at 11am – “just the way to recover from the festivities of New Year’s Eve – Welcome in 2023 by paddling or swimming in the Atlantic Ocean,” say organisers.
Take a dip in the ocean and help raise money for local children in need.
Participants are encouraged to wear their pyjamas, bring their swimwear and a towel, and go in for a swim – or just a paddle – “as long as a part of you gets wet!” Then recover in the Holiday Inn Algarve bar afterwards and enjoy a hot chocolate.
“Adults and children are all welcome to take part on the understanding that they do so at their own risk,” say organisers. Bring a donation and help raise money for the Needy Families of Armação de Pêra.
