Two million people (still) live at risk of poverty in Portugal, but grinding poverty has reduced

Two million people (still) live at risk of poverty in Portugal, but according to latest data from statistics institute INE, grinding poverty reduced in 2021. In spite of the data, Portuguese people “say life is increasingly expensive and difficult”, say reports, while PS Socialists have “challenged opposition parties to rectify their rhetoric on impoverishment”. According to INE, the risk of poverty and social exclusion has reduced from 22.4% in 2021, to 19.4% last year.
