The sister of surgical intern Diana Carvalho Pereira has opened a crowdfunding campaign to help with her sibling’s judicial costs since lodging official complaints alleging medical negligence at Faro Hospital. The chief surgeon against whom Dr Pereira made her complaints has subsequently taken temporary leave of his post, citing pressure and stress. Various investigations are ongoing into the claims.

Diana Carvalho Pereira no longer works as a surgical intern at Faro Hospital due to none of the senior surgeons being willing to mentor her, following her claims. She has said that she "would not want to work in a hospital like this" anyway.
