A GNR agent serving in Portimão died on Sunday, the victim of a gunshot wound. He was discovered with ‘serious injuries’ early on Sunday morning, and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The agent’s death has elicited a torrent of messages conveying sadness over social media. Crime is not suspected. Suicides within the country’s police forces are reportedly twice as high as they are within the general population.
