Mondego mutiny: “Navy doesn’t lie”, says Admiral of Portugal’s fleet

Commemorating Navy Day in Porto today, Admiral of the fleet Henrique Gouveia e Melo was quizzed on the ins and outs of the ‘mutiny’ on the Mondego, which involved 13 naval personnel refusing to take part in a mission due to perceived seaworthiness failings in the Mondego patrol ship. He said the findings of the internal inquiry should be known within a month – but that “the Navy does not lie” (referring to the Navy’s insistence that the Mondego was in sufficient state of readiness to carry out its mission…)
