Cost-of-living crisis sees increasing number of cats and dogs arriving at country’s overfilled shelters

With most citizens strapped by inflation/ the cost of living crisis, it is perhaps no surprise that animal associations and shelters are reporting an increased influx in abandoned pets. Expresso has focused on the problem in its weekly edition today, hearing from those on the ground that part of the problem stems from people ‘adopting animals on impulse’ during the pandemic, and now not even having the lifestyle to properly look after them. With summer holidays looming, the country’s animal protectors are braced for a long, hot, demanding season.
