A modern take on the famous fairy tale will be staged at the Teatro das Figuras in Faro on December 16 and 17.

The BCC Association (Beliaev Centro Cultural), in co-production with Teatro das Figuras, is presenting a modern take on the Cinderella ballet in Faro on December 16 and 17.

Charles Perrault’s classic fairy tale has been choreographed since 1815. Its first version was created by Francisco Decombe in Saint Petersburg in 1822 and performed at the Paris Opera in 1923.

This new Cinderella ballet reflects “the journey of a dancer’s career and the realisation of a dream, from academy days to auditions for a professional dance company.”

The story revolves around Cinderella, the only child of a widowed father, with whom she has a very affectionate relationship. One day, her father meets a beautiful lady, the mother of two girls, whom he ends up marrying. Everything seems to be in harmony, except that Cinderella is the victim of jealousy and abuse from her stepmother and two sisters because of her beauty and natural artistic talent. The stepmother does everything to stop Cinderella from following her dream, boycotting any hope she has of becoming a ballerina.

One day, during a class at the dance school that Cinderella and her sisters attend, an opportunity arises to audition for a dance company. Tempers flare and everyone prepares for the event.

The ballet, designed by Evgeniy Belyaev and choreography by Evgeniy Belyaev, Natalia Abramova, and Eliana Carvalho Moreira, will be performed by the Companhia de Dança do Algarve – CDA.

It will feature two sessions, on Saturday, December 16, at 21h00 and Sunday, December 17, at 16h00.
