Fisherman’s body found floating in Arade River

Fisherman is believed to have felt unwell and fallen into the Arade River

The body of a 57-year-old Guinean man was found floating in the Arade River near the Portimão fishing docks on Thursday morning.

According to Correio da Manhã tabloid, the man was a fisherman who felt unwell and fell into the river. 

“The victim’s body was detected by the local Maritime Police Command in Portimão, with the help of a bystander in the area. It was removed from the water by the Volunteer Firefighters of Lagoa and taken to the dock, where the death was declared by the INEM medical team,” explains the National Maritime Authority (AMN) in a statement.

It adds that the Public Prosecutor’s Office was informed of the death, while the Volunteer Firefighters of Lagoa transported the body to Portimão Hospital. The Maritime Police Psychology Office also provided support to the victim’s family.

The body is due to undergo an autopsy.
