Migrants should be respected without discrimination – president

Portugal’s president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has called today for respect for the rights of all migrants, “without discrimination”, whether their movement is forced, voluntary or formally authorised. Marking International Migrants’ Day, he stressed that “migrants’ rights are human rights” (…) There are “more than 280 million migrants in the world, citizens on the move looking for opportunities for a better life (…) the potential of migration as an engine of economic and social development is undeniable”.
