Portugal’s interior minister, José Luís Carneiro, has said he hopes the pilot scheme implemented in Mangualde to train school children in basic life support will be extended to the whole country. “This is really fundamental,” he told reporters, adding that the government has a national preventive civil protection strategy that points to the need to have “citizens better prepared for risk” and “trained to be able to protect themselves”. “Basic life support training for 10th graders throughout the country is a priority for the ministry of the interior, civil protection and the ministry of education,” he said.
