Renovations begin on Estômbar main street

Several improvements are planned

Rua 20 de Julho, the main road in and out of Estômbar, Lagoa is being renovated to the tune of €450,000.

The works started on December 4 and are expected to last 180 days, Lagoa Council announced in a statement to the press.

It is the main access road to the town and is used daily, apart from many cars and trucks, by hundreds of students who walk between the Professor João Cónim school, the bus stop, sports facilities and the town itself,” the council says.

It adds that the renovations will make the road safer for pedestrians, as a new walking path will be created and more lighting will be set up. The project also involves creating more parking and green spaces, carrying out improvements where needed, setting up new rubbish bins and renovating the entire around surrounding the municipal market.

In the eyes of the local authority, the renovations will provide “more dignity to the main entrance of Estômbar” and will make the centre of the town a safer area for pedestrians and drivers.
