Talita Cantoni strangled newborn twins in Cascais
A Brazilian beautician who gave birth at home to twin babies, promptly strangling them, has seen Supreme Court judges extend her 18-year jail term by another two years.
Talita Cantoni was condemned to jail in April this year – the murders of her newborns having taken place in December 2021. But public prosecutors were not content with the 18-year term, believing her crimes required further punishment.
Ms Cantoni, 35, has two other children – both of whom were in the apartment when she gave birth. She had reportedly kept her pregnancy ‘secret’ from both family and work colleagues. ND
