Portimão hotel school gifts delicious Bolo-Rei to Open Media

Bolo-Rei is a beloved Portuguese festive cake

As a gesture of kindness and solidarity, the Portimão Hotel and Tourism School has once again celebrated the tradition of Epiphany by offering two delicious Bolo-Rei cakes to Open Media, publishers of the Portugal Resident, for the second consecutive year.

This initiative, which celebrates the religious holiday that marks the day when three wise men met Jesus and offered him frankincense, myrrh, and gold, is precisely what one expects from Epiphany: kindness, generosity, and unity.

The Portimão Hospitality and Tourism School wanted to remind everyone of this in a very special way by gifting Open Media a sweet treat prepared by students from its professional Pastry Management and Production course.

Vânia Rawcliffe, the Resident’s Production and Advertising Coordinator, received the cakes from the hands of the Head of the Portimão Hotel and Tourism School, Pedro Moreira, and Training Advisor, Magda Martins.

“The best information and the best entertainment deserve the best flavours,” said Sofia Marques, Head of the school’s Communication Department, adding that the goal of the initiative to “sweeten the day.”

The cake’s recipe was courtesy of Chef Inácio Berlina and was fatefully reproduced, with its fluffy and crunchy texture being complemented by its rich and complex flavour.

Aside from celebrating the values of this holiday, the initiative also serves to showcase the talents that are being formed at the school and invite others to discover its over 50-year history, its purpose and its goals.

The Portimão Hotel and Tourism School is part of a national network of 12 schools distributed throughout the country, under the auspices of Tourism of Portugal. Its focus is on developing tourism professions, with courses and programmes that aim to meet the needs of the job market, in line with the main goals of the “Tourism Strategy 2027.”

In the school year of 2023/2024, initial training courses are underway for Kitchen and Pastry Technician, Restaurant and Bar Technician; Restaurant Management and Beverages, and Kitchen Management and Production. There are nine classes encompassing various levels of education.

It is also worth mentioning that by the end of the school period, 18 continuous training actions are planned, representing more than 133 hours of online executive training on the Tourism of Portugal Digital Academy platform, in areas such as Food Safety, Management, Marketing, Communication, Psychology, among others.
