GRECO’s corruption rap “outdated”, says justice minister

Portugal’s minister of justice has dismissed GRECO’s conclusions regarding Portugal in the latest report by the Council of Europe’s Group of States against Corruption, saying the report the body was working on was made “a year and a half ago”. Speaking to journalists today on the sidelines of the session to present the National Strategy for Victims of Crime 2024-2028, she stressed  there has been “great progress” recently, namely with the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Mechanism. As for the Transparency Authority, the minister emphasised that “today it also has its place of work identified in Coimbra” and is “in a position to start working“. But as for the 28 recommendations, Portugal will still be bound by them, whatever the perceived progress by the minister.
