A new health centre in the Alcântara district of Lisbon was inaugurated today and is already up and running, after an investment of €4.6 million, to serve around 15,700 patients, despite a shortage of doctors. Mayor Carlos Moedas admitted the city council has “had a lot of problems (…) We have to keep asking central government” for solutions – a situation he believes should change. “The State must decentralise with resources, and at the same time give local authorities more capacity to hire, not only operational staff but also doctors”, he said. Of the €4.6 million invested in this project, €3 million came from Brussels’ PRR funding.
