If there is rain, it will be light and passing
Maximum temperatures in mainland Portugal will remain above average for the month of January, between 17/19ºC, slightly down on last week, meteorologist Patrícia Gomes has told Lusa, but still surprisingly mild.
“Last week was above average for the month of January. For example, on Sunday the maximum temperatures were around 2º to 7/8º above normal for the season, varying, of course, according to the location of the IPMA stations,” said the meteorologist from the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
According to Gomes, maximum temperatures will remain below 20º C this week, with occasional higher temperatures (20º/21º) in the southern region of the Tejo Valley.
“But in general they will be between 17º and 19ºC, remaining stable throughout the week,” she said.
IPMA is also forecasting weak to moderate winds, skies with some cloudiness and morning mist or fog in some places.
There is a possibility of light rainfall on the coast, but nothing dramatic – and nothing like the rain that regions in the south are hoping for.
Meantime “suspended dust from North Africa is also forecast for today and tomorrow. On Sunday the dust affected the Madeira archipelago. It is not expected to be very intense, said Gomes, “it may not even be visible, but it will still be in the atmosphere”.
