Algarve Health Group HPA Saúde is organising the first Dermato-Oncology Conference in the Algarve on Saturday, March 16, at the Hotel EVA Senses in Faro.
According to the organisation, the event’s main objective is to bring together a vast team of professionals who, in their area of medical speciality, will address the most recent skin cancer themes, from diagnosis to therapeutic intervention, whether surgical or pharmacological.
The Conference will mainly feature presentations by dermatologists and oncologists, but surgeons and radiation oncologists will also be present.
The majority of speakers come from the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Lisbon and the HPA Saúde Group, joined by professionals from other national and international reference centres.
According to the latest data from the Regional Oncology Report, skin cancer was the fifth most common type of cancer, with the highest value in comparison to other regions, observed in the Faro district.
The more prolonged annual sun exposure, as well as the large foreign community, requires Algarve professionals to be aware of and trained for this reality, in the sense that the early detection of this condition guides their practices, says the event’s organisation.
Having coordinated the melanoma group at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Lisbon for many years, Dr Maria José Passos, an oncologist with extensive skin cancer experience, is coordinating the Algarve Dermato-Oncology Conference.
