Cycling fans have a lot to look forward to this week as the Algarve hosts its premier cycling competition, the Volta ao Algarve.
From the presence of former Volta ao Algarve champions such as Daniel Martínez and Remco Evenepoel to national hopefuls such as João Almeida and Rui Costa, there will be no shortage of top-level cycling action taking place in the region until Sunday.
The first stage, which is planned for Wednesday (February 14), is due to take place along a 200.8km route between Portimão and Lagos.
The second stage (171.9km), scheduled for Thursday (February 15) will begin in Lagoa and end at the top of Fóia in Monchique, passing through towns such as Algoz, Ferreiras, Paderne, Alte, São Bartolomeu de Messines and Alferce.
On Friday (February 16), the third stage will begin in Vila Real de Santo António, with cyclists taking on a 192.km route through Vila Nova de Cacela, Monte Gordo, Alcoutim, Furnazinhas, Vale da Murta and other inland towns and villages which will end in Tavira.
Switching things up a bit will be a 22.2km individual time trial on Saturday (February 17) between the Albufeira Marina and Albufeira Town Hall before the fifth and final stage begins on Sunday (February 18) in Faro, with the planned route covering locations such as Estoi, São Brás de Alportel, Querença, Ameixial, Picota and Alte before the finish line at Alto do Malhão in Loulé.
The races will also be aired on RTP1 (from 2.50pm to 4.55pm on February 14, 15 and 16 and from 2.20pm to 4pm on February 17 and 18) and Eurosport 2 (from 3pm to 4.45pm on February 14, 15 and 16 and from 2.20pm to 4pm on February 17 and 18).
