Navalny’s death compared to Portuguese general

Portugal’s minister of foreign affairs has compared the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny to that of General Humberto Delgado during the Salazar dictatorship, indicating that the European Union (EU) is awaiting information on the causes of Mr Navalny’s death in order to proceed with sanctions. “We have no doubt that Navalny died because the regime that Putin created led to his death – in the same way that Humberto Delgado died because of the regime led by Salazar in Portugal,” said João Gomes Cravinho, in Brussels after a meeting of EU counterparts in which the war in Ukraine and urgency in getting the embattled country the ammunition it requires to try and repel the Russian invasion was at the top of the agenda.
