Russia’s ambassador to Lisbon has told Portuguese diplomats that the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, for which several Western leaders blame the Kremlin, is being investigated and that any politicisation or “outside interference” is unacceptable. Mikhail Kamynin, summoned by the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday to provide clarifications following the death of Navalny, said during the meeting “this is a purely internal Russian issue“. Portugal’s head of diplomacy João Gomes Cravinho has already commented on the meeting, saying the Russian ambassador’s explanations were “completely inadequate”.
