Portugal has welcomed Sweden’s accession to NATO, approved by the Hungarian parliament yesterday, as “excellent news”. Minister for foreign affairs João Gomes Cravinho has tweeted “Together we are stronger” – alluding to the fact that the accession to the Alliance over the last year of Finland and Sweden reinforces NATO, effectively controlling the Baltic Sea, and doubling the border with Russia.
