Nobel Chemistry Laureate appeals to Algarve thieves to return precious computer

Michael Levitt lost computer, phone and diary from car

Renowned scientist/ bio-physicist Michael Levitt – winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2013 – is appealing to thieves who broke into his car at a service station on the A22 in the Algarve to return his precious computer.

The South African-born academic – known for being a fierce critic of lockdowns during the Covid pandemic – recently lost the computer, a diary and cellphone from two rucksacks in his car, parked at the time at a service station on the motorway near Lagos.

He tweeted this week: “Silent for a while focusing on writing papers on Covid (tweets easier).

“Now I ask help tracing precious laptop & diary stolen from our two backpacks from a car near Portimao, Portugal.

“Last location from phone also stolen is Rua do Alto do Pacheco, 8500 Portimão, Portugal”.

This last sentence suggests the phone was last tracked to Rua do Alto do Pacheco.

Anyone with any information is therefore asked to get in touch with Mr Levitt, possibly via ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).
