Competition will take place in five Algarve boroughs for first time in nearly 30 years
Rallye Casinos do Algarve is set to take place next weekend (March 15-16), marking the second race of the 2024 Portugal Rally Championship.
As organisers point out, this year’s edition marks a significant milestone as the rally will be held in five Algarve municipalities – Lagoa, Lagos, Portimão, Silves, and Vila do Bispo – a feat not seen since 1996.
Hosting a myriad of championships including 2WD, Masters, Junior, Classics, Promo, and Start Sul, alongside the Rally & You trophy, the event will once again be headquartered at the Hotel Algarve Casino in Praia da Rocha, Portimão, while the service park will be stationed at the Fatacil fairground in Lagoa.
Action begins with administrative and technical checks on Thursday, followed by Free Practice and Qualifying in Lagoa on Friday to determine the starting order for the first leg. Moving into the western Algarve, the rally will feature two new special stages in Lagos and Barão de S. João in the afternoon, before moving to Vila do Bispo, marking the rally’s return to the borough, and ending with a nighttime “super stage” in Lagos.
Saturday sees the rally shift to Silves, featuring three qualifying stages. The route includes a midway stop at the service park in Lagoa and a regrouping in Silves. The highlight is the 24 km Power Stage, which is expected to determine the champions.
Spectators can enjoy the action from eight viewing areas, and a “city stage” in Portimão, with the final podium ceremony to be set against the backdrop of the Hotel Algarve Casino.
The event is organised by the Algarve Automobile Club (Clube Automóvel do Algarve, or CAAL) under the auspices of the Portuguese Federation of Automobile and Karting (FPAK), and is sponsored by Solverde Casinos and Hotels, Motorpor and Medronhito do Caldeirão and backed by the municipalities of Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Portimão, Silves, and Vila do Bispo.
