Doctors call for ‘political union’ to address health service’s pressing problems

Faced with a political scenario in which the government is still extremely unclear, Portugal’s doctors’ unions are calling for a consensus on the SNS State health service, arguing that it is an issue that should not divide, but unite – and cannot wait much longer without solutions. As Roque da Cunha, president of SIM (the independent syndicate of doctors) stresses: “the problems of the sector are identified, and the professionals and users are waiting for the political will so that the SNS can become more healthy”.
