Liga Portugal Betclic:
Portimonense 0-3 Porto
Vizela 2-1 Farense
The two Algarve top division clubs saw their respective seven-match winless streaks continue with Portimonense putting up very little resistance against visiting Porto while Farense let a 1-0 lead slip at Vizela.
Last Friday night, it took only seven minutes for Nico González to give the visitors the lead at a rain-swept Municipal Stadium in Portimão before second-half strikes from Galeno and Pepe made the game safe.
Manager Paulo Sérgio’s men were never able to seriously trouble Diogo Costa in the Porto goal and the exasperated coach likened the naivety of his team’s performance to that of a junior eleven.
In contrast, Farense began Saturday afternoon’s encounter in Vizela well, Zé Luis heading the visitors into the lead after 17 minutes. The Algarveans wasted several opportunities to increase their advantage before four second-half substitutions led to Petrov equalising from distance and Alberto Soro hitting the 85th-minute winner after keeper Ricardo Velho had spilled the ball.
With the season approaching its final furlong, every match involving clubs stuck in the bottom half of the league table assumes added significance and this weekend Portimonense (15th, 23 points) travel to Estoril (16th, 22 points) on Friday evening, while Farense (12th, 26 points) welcome Rio Ave (14th, 24 points) on Saturday afternoon.
